FROPPER.COM WIDENS ECO GANPATI’S REACH TO TOUCH ALL PARTS OF MUMBAI

~Ties-up with the Mayor to popularize the concept of artificial ponds~
~ Joins hands with Ruia College students for a post-Visarjan cleanliness drive ~
Fropper has always believed in taking up issues, which are pertinent to the India of today; and environment conservation is a huge concern. We introduced Eco Ganpati last year to create awareness about the effects of harmful chemicals on marine life, and we received such an overwhelming response that it made us believe that we were on the right track. In its second year, this initiative is our way of giving back to Mother Nature, and to unite the youth over a social cause, which affects their future. We request all devotees of Ganpati to be kind to the environment and visit www.ecoganpati.com to know more about how you can support the cause – Navin Mittal, Business Head – Fropper.comMumbai 1st September, 2008: Reiterating its social commitment this festive season, Fropper.com, People Group’s friendship & social networking site, is back with its unique Eco Ganpati initiative for the second year in a row. In order to highlight the importance of environmental friendly festivities and heightened civic responsibility during Ganesh Utsav, the portal has joined hands with the Mayor of Mumbai and the students of Ruia College to take the cause of Eco Ganpati to a wider audience. Fropper.com has also tied up with e-Coexist.com to promote the sales of eco-friendly Ganpatis.
Going by its indigenous mission of ‘social networking for a social cause’, Fropper.com has taken upon itself to educate the masses about the concept of artificial ponds, an initiative being fronted by the Mayor of Mumbai – Dr. Shubha Raul. Fropper.com will be promoting this initiative on its site www.ecoganpati.com and will also be providing details of various Mumbai locations where the ponds have been put up by BMC. The Mayor will also be participating in a special Eco- Ganpati pooja organized by Fropper.com at its Mumbai office in the first week of September.
A lot of families bring home Ganesh idols during the Ganpati festival; we have built artificial ponds across various locations in Mumbai for them to carry out the immersions. I request all Ganpati devotees to be environment conscious this year and encourage them to immerse their Ganpati idols in these artificial ponds instead of natural water bodies. It is every individual’s responsibility to conserve the environment…so let’s be responsible this Ganpati festival – Dr. Shuba Raul, Mayor of MumbaiIn addition to the tie-up with the Mayor, Fropper.com has reached out to college students and tied up with Ruia College for a post immersion cleanliness drive that the portal will be organizing on the 15th September at Girgaum Chowpatty. The cleanliness drive will see students, Fropper.com members and its employees come together in a bid to save the environment. With this drive, Fropper.com aims at taking an online initiative offline by providing key communities such as students and members an opportunity to support a cause they believe in.
Fropper.com will continue to emphasize the need of using idols made out of biodegradable materials like Shaadu (natural clay) and painted with natural colours like turmeric, multani mitti and geroo unlike the usual Plaster of Paris (POP) and toxic chemical dyes. Joining hands with e-Coexist.com, the social networking site is encouraging all devotees to celebrate this Ganesh Chaturthi the eco friendly way.

This is the second year of Fropper.com’s Eco Ganpati initiative; last year over 2000 signed an online petition to ban the use of POP in making Ganesh idols. The petition was then presented to the Mayor of Mumbai - Dr. Shubha Raul.
